In a ruling that strengthens the rights of photographers on the Internet and beyond, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals this week decided in a 2-1 decision, that digitally altered photographs appearing on the web and elsewhere are protected by copyright laws.

Use of any image as the basis for another photographic concept or illustration
is a violation of the copyright.
